Pomegranates have been present in Anatolian cultures for more than 5,000 years. It played a major role in Greek and Abrahamic religions. As a dominant power of the area for 10 centuries, the Ottoman Empire inherited, embraced and contributed to the importance of the pomegranate. Its shape was frequently featured on many architectural works as well as on handcrafts; symbolically associated with protection, immortality, abundance and fertility.
