This sparkling, gem-encrusted cross is inspired by Astraea, the ancient Greek goddess of stars. The name “Astraea,” spelled in Ancient Greek, is derived from the Greek word for “star.”
In Greek mythology, Astraea was the Titan deity associated with shooting stars. During the fall of the Titans, Zeus pursued Astraea, who transformed into a bird and fell from the sky like a shooting star. Upon colliding with the sea, she became Ortygia Island, a small islet just off the coast of Sicily.
A shooting star is actually a small piece of rock or dust that enters Earth’s atmosphere from space. It travels at such high speeds that it heats up and glows as it streaks through the sky.
The ASTRAEA cross is completely hand-sculpted by Rafael Indiana, who carves his necklaces from wax, ensuring that every piece is unique. This craftsmanship is what we believe gives the cross its authentic ancient beauty.
