The CUNEIFORM Necklace, one of the earliest writing systems, cuneiform originated around 3400 BC and lasted over 3,000 years. Thousands of texts in Sumerian and Akkadian have been discovered, and recent advancements have enabled a neural network to translate these ancient writings into English.
Akkadian, an early Semitic language, was spoken in ancient Mesopotamia, notably in the Akkadian Empire, which is now parts of Iraq and northeastern Syria. Named after the city of Akkad, it was used for various purposes, including administrative documents and literature. The decipherment of Akkadian in the 19th century provided significant insights into ancient civilization.
Sumerian, one of the oldest known languages, is a language isolate with no known relatives. Spoken in ancient Sumer (in modern-day Iraq), it was foundational to one of the earliest civilizations, flourishing from around 4500 BCE to 2000 BCE.
Both languages used cuneiform, which poses translation challenges due to its cryptic nature. The engraving on this necklace depicts an ancient brick tomb, representing the “Law Code” of Hammurabi from the Old Babylonian period.
Complely hand engraved by our master engravers in the grand bazzar of Istanbul Turkey. Rafael Indiana hand carves his necklaces making each piece unique, which we believe is what gives it it’s authentic ancient beauty.
