The MERCURY necklace features a red carnelian intaglio hand-engraved with a depiction of the Roman mythological god Mercury, also known as Hermes. His iconic winged helmet serves as his signature symbol, representing speed. From the beginning, Mercury shared many aspects with Hermes, including wearing winged shoes (talaria) and a winged hat (petasos), as well as carrying the caduceus—a herald’s staff with two entwined snakes, a gift from Apollo to Hermes.
Mercury is the god of financial gain, commerce, eloquence, messages, communication (including divination), travelers, boundaries, luck, trickery, and thieves. He also serves as the guide of souls to the underworld and the “messenger of the gods.” The son of Zeus and Maia, Mercury acts as the mediator between the realm of the dead and the kingdom of the living.
