Material: 24K Gold Plated Silver, Ancient Phoenician Stones

The PHOENICIAN Necklace features an array of multicolored glass stones, each hand-painted with a variety of patterns and ancient Phoenician symbols. The fine Phoenician beads, made from molded green glass, showcase a concentric design adorned with blue applied polychrome glass bosses. Some earthly encrustation and red paste used to attach the bead’s decor are visible, emphasizing the necklace’s authenticity. All these stones are of ancient Phoenician origin, making them rare artifacts of history.

The Anatolian region of Turkey was once home to a Phoenician civilization, where ornamental objects like glassware and beads were favored to signify social status, wealth, and privilege. Glass beads were among the first glass products produced in Mesopotamia during the late third millennium BC. This practice eventually evolved into the technique of glass blowing, likely established in the Phoenician region in the early 1st century BC.

The people now known as the Phoenicians were a group of ancient Semitic-speaking individuals who emerged in the Levant by at least the third millennium BC. They directly succeeded the Bronze Age and were renowned for their prowess in trade, seafaring, and navigation. The Phoenicians dominated commerce throughout classical antiquity and developed an expansive maritime trade network that lasted over a millennium, facilitating cultural exchanges among major cradles of civilization, including Greece, Egypt, and Mesopotamia.

The gold nuggets interspersed among the beads are unique, hand-sculpted amorphic pieces that complement the stones. Each nugget is meticulously crafted by Rafael Indiana, who hand-carves his necklaces from wax, ensuring that each piece is one-of-a-kind. This craftsmanship contributes to the necklace’s authentic ancient beauty.
