The ARISTAEUS necklace features a hand-engraved carving on natural mother of pearl, an intaglio depiction of a bee. This design draws inspiration from Aristaeus, the ancient Greek god of beekeeping. As the son of Apollo and the huntress Cyrene, Aristaeus was raised on nectar and ambrosia, mastering various crafts under the guidance of the Myrtle-nymphs, including food preparation, hunting, husbandry, and beekeeping. In Greek mythology, Aristaeus embodies the essence of a culture hero, revered for his significant contributions and innovative practices.
In ancient Greek religion, bees are often associated with prophecy and poetic inspiration. They are seen as liminal beings that connect the mortal realm to the divine, playing a crucial role in transmitting divine wisdom to humanity.
